All GreenHomeNYC forums are free and open to the public. Although tax season ends on April 15th, you can still learn about how to get the most for your buck through green tax abatements and other financial incentives. Join GreenHomeNYC this month as we look at the incentives that are available for commercial, residential and small properties; the process in applying for these incentives; and how green investments can help you save money. Speakers include: Wendy Fleischer, Director of Sustainability Services for Pratt Center for Community Development and the Coordinator of the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Energy Smart Communities Program for Brooklyn and Queens. Wendy’s role is to engage communities to reduce their reliance on nonrenewable energy sources. She developed a pilot project in partnership with the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to increase energy retrofits by offering incentives to block and neighborhood associations which is being expanded and replicated in Cypress Hills and neighborhoods throughout the city. Wendy joined Pratt Center after ten years as an independent program developer and writer for foundations and nonprofits. Her work has focused on community development, workforce development, community organizing, justice reinvestment, afterschool programs and supportive housing. Wendy participated in the Revson Fellowship for the Future of the City of New York at Columbia University and has a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. Harris Schaer is an Assistant Project Manager based-out of NYSERDA’s NYC Office. His main focus is promoting energy efficiency in Con Edison utility territory through NYSERDA’s Commercial & Industrial implementation incentive programs. Prior to joining NYSERDA in the NYC Office, Mr. Schaer worked for TEKCAST Industries, Inc., a New Rochelle, NY-based manufacturer of casting and mold-making equipment. Mr. Schaer received a BA in Physics from the University of Chicago, and an MS in Solid-State Physics from the University of Iceland for his research on hydrogen storage in metals and hydrogen-based heat-pumps.
