Speaker bios and powerpoints!
Nic Darling spoke about the challenges of Postgreen’s first residential project, designing and building a modern and green urban house for only $100,000. Not only was Postgreen able to design and build a house for $100K, but the house has earned the LEED platinum certification.
Pat McDonald highlights Onion Flats’ various green projects, including the first LEED Gold certified residential building in Philadelphia.
Nic Darling is a partner in Postgreen and acts as the Director of Marketing and PR though he has been known to adopt other titles such as Minister of Information and Poet in Residence when the mood is upon him. A startup addict of sorts, Nic has developed a wide set of skills at several developing companies, particularly in branding and online marketing. His work with Postgreen has led to a growing expertise in green building science and a solidifying urban development philosophy. The marketing role at Postgreen is integral to the product design process. Architectural decisions, development decisions and building decisions are all tied to the Postgreen brand. In other words, Nic is not to be understood simply by the implications of his title.
Patrick McDonald is a Philadelphia native, a partner of Onion Flats LLC, an operating engineer, mechanical contractor, registered master plumber, licensed solar PV installer, and certified residential and commercial Green Advantage instructor. In 1997, his brother, Tim, and he started Onion Flats, a design/build/development firm. Pat has steered the organization and mission towards fundamentally sustainable modes of thinking, building, and dwelling. Pat’s responsibilities within Onion Flats include design and implementation of sustainable systems, and construction management. The Onion Flats also team completed the first LEED for Homes Gold Certified residences in the City of Philadelphia, and recently, the first LEED for Homes Platinum duplex project in the nation, Thin Flats. Most recently, Patrick started the company G.R.A.S.S. which installs green roofs, solar systems, and rainwater harvesting systems to clients in the greater Philadelphia area.
