Designing and Building Your Own Green/Environmentally Healthy Home or Apartment
Green apartments and buildings are possible to have now! Not only do they create cleaner cities but are healthier and more beautiful to inhabit. But how can individual home owners, renters, and builders transform their individual living spaces into such a green home? Gathering information and negotiating the myriad of choices can be challenging and this six-week series will help you understand the basics of how to get started. This course offers a combination of practical, technical, and theoretical information in each class on a variety of topics ranging from energy efficiency to rooftop gardens to lighting and insulation. Taught by practitioners of actual local projects, both professional architects and Do It Yourselfers, the class will put you in touch with people who are making green buildings a reality. In addition, the class will feature a green building tour in October to visit local green buildings, a design charette to put your knowledge into practice, and a course reader.
The industry professionals teaching this course include: Gita Nandan, Thread Collective; Susan Boyle, Big Sue, LLC; Tom Sahagan, Power Concepts Inc.; Anthony Perrera, Alt Power; Daniel Harris, Association for Energy Affordability, TBA Steven Winter and Associates.
Tuesday, October 18 7-9pm $240; AIA HSW credits available; course reader available for $20
